US Visa: America will issue additional H-2B visas in 2023 The move by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is not likely to have a significant impact on Indians as most of them do not opt for this visa.
The US will temporarily make available an additional 64,716 H-2B visas for fiscal year 2023. This category of visa is for unskilled foreign workers. This step has been taken to enable US companies to plan for their labor needs during the busy season. The H-2B visa allows employers to temporarily hire foreign workers for non-agricultural labor or services in the US for a limited period of time.
The move by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is not likely to have a significant impact on Indians as most of them do not opt for this visa. Indians generally do not apply for H-2B visas. This is because most Indians moving to the US are highly skilled professionals who are hired by US companies for specialized roles that require theoretical or technical expertise. This type of immigration requires an H-1B visa. USCIS said in a statement that the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Labor are issuing a temporary rule allowing an additional 64,716 H-2B temporary non-agriculture workers in fiscal year 2022-2023. Worker visas will be available. These additional visas are being issued in response to requests from US employers who need additional workers before September 15, 2023.
